LeoCAD's auto-generated build instructions are simply bad! (Layout wise). They aren't editable either.
Thus, use BrickLink Studio's "Instruction Maker" instead. BrickLink can open .LDR files.

Rough Notes:
Rotate bricks:
Click in bounding box containing the piece to rotate, not the bricks themselves.
Right Panel should have "Change Step View' button. Click it to enter actual rotation and resizing et al panel.
The thumbnail (top right corner of page; appears when new page begins for a sub-model) can be rotated separately.
Change page design: button's in the top middle.
Choose from 1x1 grid, 2x2 grid, 2 rows, 3 rows, 2 columns, 3 columns...
Add page:
Left panel, top right corner has a 'add page to end of booklet' button.
If that doesn't work, click the vertical ellipsis button on the left of each page thumbnail, and select 'insert page before', or 'insert page after'.
Add image:
Have to import images, and cannot paste from clipboard.
Images with transparency are supported. Edit them in your favourite image editor before importing them.
You can change image opacity.
There's a problem with position text, owing to overlapping elements.
Workaround:
Use the resize corners: drag top left corner to desired position.
Then drag the bottom right corner to resize.
Occasionally there may be a problem re-positioning an element, as it keeps snapping back to a bad position.
To resolve, drag the image until red guideline(s) appears. Adjust position while ensuring that red guideline remains on screen. The guideline is what allows the element to be anchored to the new position without snapping back.
